Happy National String Cheese Day!

I didn't know this was a holiday but you better brie-lieve I'm excited that it is. Cheese sticks are so gouda! Okay, I'll quit with the cheesy jokes and share why they're one of my fav snacks:

  • They are a quick and easy to grab snack.

  • They pair with a lot of different things, i.e. fruit, crackers, nuts, pepperoni, etc.

  • With a wide range of flavors they can add variety to a meal pretty easily or provide the opportunity to try a new cheese without committing to an expensive block.

  • They are packed with different nutrients such as protein, fat, calcium, and phosphorus.

  • They can please a wide age range from kids to adults.

  • For individuals with lactose intolerance, cheese sticks can still be an option!!. They are low in lactose (and some don't even contain lactose!).

  • For individuals with diabetes they are a great snack that won't spike your blood glucose levels.

  • Diets containing cheese have been shown to decrease risk of cardiovascular disease and a decreased risk of cancer (Harvard).

  • Some cheeses contain probiotics which can promote a healthy gut and gut regularity.
